Raksha Bandhan – A day for Brothers and Sisters
Tiruchi, August 21, 2013: North Indians celebrated Raksha Bandhan with enthusiasm and ado in Nadu Gujili Street on Tuesday.
The traditional festival denotes celebration of the bond of love between brother and sister.
Sisters tie a sacred thread called ‘Rakhi’ on their brothers’ wrist.
In return, brothers give gifts to their sisters expressing their care and vow of lifelong protection.
Marvadis, Sindhis, Punjabis, and Gujaratis celebrated the festival in Thillai Nagar, Ponnagar (Gandhi nagar), bazaar, and big bazaar areas.
