Thumri Festival Concludes on a Grand Note

New Delhi, August 16, 2013: Lovers of Hindustani classical music were regaled with scintillating performances by Pandit Channu Lal Mishra, Moumita Mitra and Kakli Mukherjee on the concluding day of the three-day-long “Thumri Festival” at Kamani Auditorium here on Friday.

At a time when several art forms are struggling to keep pace with the onset of newer forms of entertainment, like Western musical shows on satellite channels, the festival seeks to provide a platform to artists who put their heart and soul into classical musical performances.

To keep alive the semi-classical musical form, the Delhi Government’s Department of Art, Culture and Languages and Sahitya Kala Parishad had extended invitation to top notch singers of Hindustani classical music. This was done to ensure that connoisseurs of classical music were soaked in the colours of Thumri for three consecutive days.

The second day of the event saw soul-stirring performances by veteran classical vocalist Pohankar, Dhanashree and Dalia Raut, who performed to a packed house.
