Kathakali Performance on Sampoorna Ramayanam Wins Praise
Palakkad, August 13, 2013: The Palakkad Kathakali Trust, as part of its eighth anniversary celebrations, staged Sampoorna Ramayanam by Kottakkal P.S.V. Natyasangham at M.D. Ramanathan Auditorium at Chembai Memorial Government Music College here on Monday.
The performance started with Ravana’s sister Soorpanaka coming in as a beautiful damsel, Lalitha, to attract Lord Rama.
It was a great team effort, but a few characters stood out for their sterling performance. Rajmohan as Lalitha was outstanding and stood out as the highlight of the play, Mohan Menon, a Kathakali critic, said.
Kottakkal Sivadas as Bali came up with a performance to remember, and Kottakkal Murali as Sugreeva gave excellent support. Kesavan Kundalayar portrayed Ravana.
The grand finale was the most colourful Pattabhishekam Sangeetham by Kottakkal Narayanan, Kottakkal Madhu and Vengeri Narayanan and Prasad, Mr. Menon said.
Vijayan on the Chenda and Ravi and Radhakrishnan on the Maddalam gave splendid ambience.
The Kottakkal team need to be congratulated for their professional approach to “Aharya” and “Chutti,” Mr. Menon said.
