Tirukalyana Utsavam
Rameshwaram, August 12, 2013: Hundreds of devotees witnessed the “Tirukalyana utsavam,” the celestial wedding of Lord Ramanathaswamy and Goddess Parvathavarthini Ambal at Sri Ramanathaswamy temple here on Sunday evening.
Devotees drawn from various parts of the State thronged the temple to witness the wedding, an important event of the ongoing Aadi festival which began on July 31, with flag hoisting.
After exchange of garlands by the God and his consort at Thabasu Mandapam near the temple on Saturday evening, followed by the engagement ceremony, the wedding took place between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday at the southwest corner in the famous third corridor.
Soon after exchanging garlands, the idol of Lord Ramanathaswamy was brought to the temple in a procession on Saturday evening, while the idol of the Goddess was brought to the temple at the early hours of Sunday in a flower palanquin.
The Aadi festival would draw to a close on August 16.
