Tension over High-Handed Behavior of Police during Bonalu Celebrations
Hyderabad, August 5, 2013: Mild tension prevailed at Meerpet and Malkajgiri on Sunday when residents protested high-handed behaviour of the police during Bonalu celebrations.
Police officials strongly objected to the use of high volume music with DJs during the festivities in Meerpet saying it caused inconvenience to others.
Initially, the residents agreed to stop the music, but later continued to play it.
The police seized the music systems.
Devotees caned
The police used mild force to disperse the residents who were protesting at not being allowed to celebrate the festival.
At Malkajgiri also, the police caned devotees who tried to protest on not being allowed to play music during the festivities.
