ISKCON Protests Temple Land Acquisition
Hyderabad, August 5, 2013: Protests against the proposal to acquire 1,600 square yards of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), Secunderabad, for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project continued on Sunday with temple authorities deciding to further intensify the stir.
The temple authorities said that despite alternative options such as wide road on the opposite side and a huge park, the authorities are insisting on acquiring a large chunk of the temple land for the Metro Rail project.
The Iskcon members said that acquisition of 1,600 square yards of land would effectively wipe away the temple.
On Sunday evening, a large number of devotees turned up to participate in a protest meeting.
The Iskcon temple authorities said that a dharna would be organised at Hyderabad Collectorate on August 8.
