VHP Leader Demands Congress to Construct Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Else Face Devotees’ Wrath
New Delhi, August 4, 2013: Veteran VHP leader Ashok Singhal on Saturday said it was time for the government to take steps regarding the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Singhal warned the Centre that if it did not pass a resolution to this effect in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Ram devotees would step up their efforts so that they are heard.
"The sants want that the government should honour its word by introducing legislation to the effect in the Monsoon Session of Parliament starting from August 5, 2013. If the government does not do it, then the Hindu society would take a Maha-Sankalp to express its resolve on the banks of the holy Sarayu at Ayodhya on October 18, 2013," Singhal said in an official statement.
The VHP leader quoted from an affidavit submitted by the government in the Supreme Court in 1994 which stated that " a Hindu temple/ structure did exist prior to the construction of the demolished structure, government action will be in support of the wishes of the Hindu community..." As the Hindu society got this victory after 485 years of struggle, Singhal said, the community would never accept any new mosque, or Muslim monument, or Islamic Cultural Centre within the scriptural/ traditional boundaries of Ayodhya Vishwa Hindu Parishad will launch a yatra from August 25 to September 13 covering the 'scriptural' boundary of Ayodhya. The yatra will underline the point that a Ram Temple existed at Ayodhya nearly 485 years ago.
