Poompuhar Handicraft Mela in Puducherry
Puducherry, August 4, 2013: The Poompuhar’s handicraft mela, organised by the Tamil Nadu Development Corporation Ltd, began here on Saturday.
Collector S.B. Deepak Kumar inaugurated it at Velsokkanathar Thirumana Mandapam. The exhibition will be held till August 14. A large number of collection of a variety of showpieces, made of metal and wood, besides handloom textiles and dress material, are on display at the crafts bazaar.
Heritage items like bronze icons, special panchaloha lamps, brass oil lamps, brass sheet metal products, Tanjavur art plates, paintings, wood carvings, sandalwood items, and rosewood inlay products are among the display items. The Poompuhar sales showroom offers a special discount of 10 per cent for select items. The authorities said the craftsmen who had acumen of creating various handicraft items would also be present at the exhibition-cum-sale to explain various features of products.
