Miscreants Decamp with Gold Jewellery from Sai Baba Temple in Chennai
Chennai, August 4, 2013: Miscreants decamped with about 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery adorning the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple shrine in Gowrivakkam near Tambaram, here on Friday. Police said temple management noticed the missing jewellery while locking the shrine after worship around 9 pm.
The temple management immediately checked the CCTV camera footage on the premises. It showed a person in a checkered shirt along with another person talking over the mobile phone entering the temple. As other devotees objected to the mobile conversation within the temple, there was an argument. The man then went out to finish the conversation and returned. His friend meanwhile went further into the temple and came back to the spot where the commotion occurred to join the other guy. The duo then went further ahead and left in a short while.
The management pointed their finger of suspicion on the duo, claiming that could have stolen the jewellery after diverting the attention of other devotees during the commotion. They later lodged a complaint with the Selaiyur Police, who too scanned the CCTV footage. A case was registered and further investigations were on.
