Thanjavur, August 4, 2013: Thousands of people took part in the celebration of Aadi Perukku festival along the banks of the Cauvery in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur district on Saturday. Bathing ghats all along the Cauvery, Vennar, and Grand Anicut canal were crowded with people offering worship to the river. Women performed mangalya puja and floated camphor lit betel leaves in rivers welcoming the fresh water.

Crowd was huge at the bathing ghat on Grand Anicut Canal near Big temple in Thanjavur, Cauvery in Thiruvaiyaru, its branches Kodamuruti, Mudikondan, and Thirumalairajan, Vennar in Tiruvarur district, and its branches Vettar, Korayar, Baminiyar, and so on, Grand Anicut canal in Pattukottai and Orathanadu areas. Adi Perukku is celebrated on the eighteenth of Tamil Month Aadi.
