More Security and More CCTVs for Hindu Leaders in Tamilnadu
Madurai, August 1, 2013: As part of the heightened security cover provided to key leaders of Hindu outfits following the spate of killings and attacks targeting top functionaries in recent weeks, the city police propose to instal closed circuit television cameras outside their residences.
A police officer said while some of the 11 leaders provided police cover had opted to install CCTV cameras on their own, the police were in the process of installing them for others.
“We have already intensified vigil around the residences of those considered to be facing life threats by posting plain-clothes men to watch out for suspicious elements,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the police said some leaders of Muslim outfits were receiving threat letters, warning them against providing any information to the police on some of the criminals suspected to be behind the murder of Hindu leaders.
The State police had recently released the photographs of four persons – ‘Police’ Fakhrudheen, Bilal Malik, Panna Ismail and Abu Backer Siddique – and announced a cash reward of Rs.20 lakh for those who provided vital information leading to their arrest.
“All the leaders who were in touch with the police have been targeted through the threat letters. The people behind such threats feel that these leaders might tip off the police about the whereabouts of the suspects.”
Only those people who were either harbouring the suspects or were acting as part of the supply chain to them were afraid of being exposed if the suspects were arrested, and hence they were trying to silence those who had knowledge about the suspects, the officer observed.
