9 persons died in Uttarakhand fresh rains
Dehradun, August 1, 2013: Nine persons died on Wednesday as the monsoon continued to ravage the State.
Four Nepali residents who worked as porters in Dehradun were buried under debris that filled the tents they lived in at around 1.00 a.m. on Wednesday. Ramji Sharan Sharma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sadar, Dehradun, said, “We have contacted the family members of the deceased. Compensation will be provided once we have the proof of their identity.”
Mr. Sharma said around 12 families living in tents in that area have been shifted to safer places.
Water from the Rispana River has been entering the houses in Rishi Colony here. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, District Magistrate, Dehradun, on Wednesday ordered that dozers be used to divert the flow of the Rispana to save houses from getting damaged by the increasing flow of the water.
In another incident, Almora’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ajay Arora, who was on duty in Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district, got swept away in the Mandakini River on Wednesday.
