Devotees Flock Temples on Shrawan Somvar
KANPUR, July 30, 2013: Monday, regarded as one of the most auspicious days during Shrawan, saw hordes of people thronging various Lord Shiva temples in city. People, ready with milk and 'belpatra' offerings for Rudrabhishek, were seen temples like Parmat, Siddhnath,Kherepati and Anandeshwar.
The shopkeepers near these temples also saw an increase in sale devotees came to buy 'prasad', flowers and milk. Abhiker Sharma, an IT expert, said that he gets internal strength when he worships Lord Shiva during Shrawan. "I believe observing fasts on all Mondays of the month gets me all I desire," he said.
The significance of 'Shravan Somvar' is even more for young girls, who observe the fast to get a good husband like Lored Shiva himself.
Jyoti Sharma, a fashion designer and resident of Civil Lines, said, "I am a believer in Lord Shiva and I start my 40-day fasts from this month. I believe every day during the whole month is auspicious and fasting will help purify my soul."
