15th Century ‘Kannassa Ramayanam’ Translation Brought Out by State Institute of Languages
Pathanamthitta, July 30, 2013: Travancore Devaswom Board president M.P. Govindan Nair released the translation (with description) of the 15th century classic, Kannassa Ramayanam, brought out by the State Institute of Languages, at the Thrikkapaleeswara temple at Niranom near Thiruvalla on Monday.
Academic Puthussery Ramachandran compiled and translated Kannassa Ramayanam, written by Rama Panicker, the youngest of the 15th-century trio, Kannassa poets of Niranom, into chaste Malayalam.Prof. Ramachandran placed the volume at the temple ‘sopanam’ as his offering to Thrikkapaleeswara, the family deity of Kannassa poets, before is formal release by the TDB president.
Satheesh Kochuparambil, Mahatma Gandhi University Syndicate member, presided over the function. “The book is a treasure to Malayalam literature,” said the TDB president. The book is priced at Rs.700. Vilakkudy Rajendran, deputy director; P. Unnikrishnan, Tapasya State secretary; M.P. Gopalakrishnan, Kannassa Memorial Trust secretary; Rajashekharan Nair, Muloor memorial president; M.M. Gopalan Nair, Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti district president; K.G. Sukumaran Nair, Thrikkapaeeswarom temple trust president, and Harikrishnan S. Pillai, secretary, spoke.
