Police Mitra created in Varanasi
Varanasi, July 26, 2013: To help the police in crowd regulation and law and exercises during holy months of Shrawan and Ramjan, a team of 1500 people, who will be known as 'Police Mitra' (friends of police), has been created. To increase participation of women in this team a special campaign will continue for a fortnight.
DIG Range A Satish Ganesh, district magistrate Pranjal Yadav and SSP AK Mishra distributed identity cards to the volunteers. The officials said that the turnout of Kanwariyas and other pilgrims in the city may be more than expected and police needs cooperation from the denizens.
Apart from identity cards the members of this team will also get T-shirts. With only three women in the present team, the officials decided to launch a special fortnight long campaign to include more women. The SSP also highlighted the facilities made available at control room and online registration of complaint through Facebook.
The officials also distributed certificates among the differently abled children identified during the recently launched 'Sahas' programme of district police. The officials said that this programme was launched as a part of community policing, which helps in bridging the gap of police and public. During the special camps organised as a part of this programme at Rohania, Jansa and Lohta police station a participation of 767 differently abled children was noticed in the programme. Out of these 107 were identified as physically challenged while 155 were as mentally challenged.
