Next August lined up with lots of festivals for Tamilnadu
Chennai, July 26, 2013: Come August and Tamil Nadu is lined up with festivals. There is always some reason to celebrate in this state with jubilation, gaiety and flowers of vibrant colours tucked in elaborate hair-do are the Tamilians who keep themselves happy and going.

This is one festival that is filled with merriment to celebrate the overflowing River Cauvery’s glory. Being mostly dependent on agriculture this festival celebrates a good monsoon. The river goddess is worshiped and offerings are floated into the river. Varieties of cooked rice are brought along by worshipers and eaten together on the banks.
Tamil Nadu celebrates its Independence Day with glory.
Following it is the Krishna Jayanti where lord Krishna’s birth is celebrated in every household and goodies are prepared to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.
Vinayaka Chathurthi
The elephant-headed Hindu god is prayed by all devotees. It is observed as the birthday of the lord Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. House doors are decorated with streamers of mango and coconut leaves. People adorned their clay gods with vibrant colours.
After offering prayers, neighbours and friends got together to share ‘akozhakattais’, a rice flour and jaggery dumpling said to be the favourite dish of the elephant-headed Hindu god.
Lord Ganesha , the God of prosperity blesses all starting from the road side vendors to who make enough money for the festival by selling the clay models of the lord Vinayaka to the flower sellers. Everyone gets enough chance to make the best of this festival. The streets are melodious with songs and prayers to the lord Vinayaka.
