Eco friendly clay Idols for Ganesh Chaturthi
Dharwad, July 26, 2013: As part of its efforts to create awareness on celebrating Ganesh Chaturti in an eco-friendly manner, the Hubli-Dharwad Nagarika Parisara Samiti has come out with a programme to sensitise clay artisans.
At a workshop for artisans specialising in crafting Ganesh idols, the samiti elaborated on eco-friendly ways of manufacturing clay idols. Artisan Manjunath Hiremath conducted a demonstration on crafting clay idols with eco-friendly materials and cutting down on hazardous chemicals as much as possible.
Mr. Hiremath spearheads the campaign to popularise eco-friendly Ganesh idols. He explained how clay Ganesh idols coloured with herbal paints are more attractive than the plaster of paris (PoP) idols or those coloured with chemical paints.
Artisans should try their best to convince customers to buy eco-friendly idols, he said.
