Religious Fervor Marks Guru Purnima Celebrations across Prakasam District
Ongole, July 23, 2013: Guru Purnima, the birthday of Vedavyasa, was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour across Prakasam district on Monday.
Right from dawn, pious people made a beeline to temples to seek the blessings of spiritual gurus with reverence in keeping with the great tradition to honour sage Vyasa, who had compiled the four Vedas.
A heavy rush of devotees was witnessed at the famous Sai Baba temple at Lawyerpet, as also other temples dedicated to the spiritual guru at Santhapet and N.G.Padu on the full moon day of the holy month of ‘Ashadam’.
‘Pada Darshanam’ was allowed once in a year to devotees at the Lawyerpet Saibaba temple, where ‘abhishekam’ was performed to the deity earlier.
Devotees also visited the Pelluru Sai Baba temple with a life-size idol of Sai Baba chiseled from a marble procured from Italy. The speciality of the idol here was that it had been made at the Talim’s art studio in Mumbai by sculptor Rajiv Harish Talim, grandson of Balaji Wasanth Talim, who had created the idol in Shirdi. Bhajans and community feasts were organised on the occasion.
