Tirumala Senior Pontiff Takes Chaturmasya Sankalpam
Tirumala, July 23, 2013: Sri Periyakoil Kelviyappan Shadagopa Ramanuja Pedda Jeeyar – senior pontiff of the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara on Monday ceremoniously took the Chaturmasya Sankalpam along with his deputy Sri Narayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar.
The deeksha, which according to the scriptures is ubiquitous since Vedic period, is generally followed by various spiritual leaders for the prosperity of the entire humanity. The deeksha spanning for four months will conclude on the full moon in the month of Karthika i.e. November.
The Jeeyars shall remain engrossed in Dhyana and other religious rituals and observe strict dietary habits during the entire four-month sacrament period.
The Jeeyars embarked on the spiritual mission at the Chinna Jeeyar Mutt amidst chanting of hymes by over 3,000 Sri Vaishnavites who had converged atop the temple town from different parts of the country to take part in the religious event. Prominent among others who were present include the TTDs Executive Officer M.G. Gopal, CVSO GVG Ashok Kumar and other officials.
