July 23, 2013: The Hindu’s Renuka Phadnis spoke to a cross-section of citizens and devotees in Mangalore and all said that security of idols and sacred articles in places of worship is a matter of concern. They hoped the authorities are taking adequate care of them.

The temple has CCTV cameras and till now, there has been no untoward incident. The crowd at the temple peaks on Fridays, when 12,000 to 15,000 people visit

On Fridays, the idol in Mangaladevi temple is draped with more jewellery and security is a concern. These are not kept in the temple but in a safe deposit locker.
