Amritsar, July 22, 2013: As the 'Savan' or the fifth month of Hindu calendar commenced, newly married women in North India adorned themselves with floral ornaments and held special prayers for peace and tranquillity to welcome the season. With the advent of Monsoon in northern India, married women gathered at the 16th century Hindu temple, Durgiana in Amritsar. The newly married couples, dressed in traditional attire and floral ornaments prayed for the well-being, good health and prosperity of their families. Ved Vyas, the priest of the temple, said that the holy month of Savan is marked by festivities and offering of special prayers for the peace and tranquillity of the household.
