Music Fraternity Remembers Hindustani Vocalists

Hubli/Dharwad, July 22, 2013: Members of the music fraternity remembered Hindustani vocalists Gangubai Hangal and Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru, on their fourth and 22nd death anniversaries respectively, in Hubli and Dharwad on Sunday.

Floral tributes were paid at the memorial to Gangubai Hangal at Dr. Gangubai Hangal Gurukul at Unakal in Hubli. Music lovers and family members paid tributes to Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru in Dharwad.

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Sameer Shukla, MLA Vinay Kulkarni, former MLA Chandrakanth Bellad and others paid floral tributes to both musicians in Dharwad.

Mr. Shukla and others offered puja at his ancestral house.

Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation, in association with Hubli Art Circle, organised a one-day music festival at Sawai Gandharava Hall, Hubli.

In Dharwad, Swara Samrat Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru Trust organised a programme at the musician’s residence. Pt. Somanath Maradur, Pt. Shreepad Hegde, Pt. Shantharam Hegde, S.F. Gojanur, Vishwaraj Rajguru, Harish Hegde, Gajanan Hegde, Ravi Kudligi, Dundaiah Pujar, Basavaraj Hugar and students of the music school run by Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru National Memorial Trust paid tributes to the late vocalist.
