Guv Urges State Govt. to Extend Support to Karnataka Sanskrit University

Bangalore, July 22, 2013: Governor H.R. Bhardwaj has urged the State government to do more for the development of the Karnataka Sanskrit University, which was established three years ago.

Speaking at the inauguration of a national conference on Vedic literature, organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Sunday, Mr. Bhardwaj said the State government should come forward to promote Vedic studies and Sanskrit.

However, he was critical of the manner in which the university had gone about promoting the language. He said the university had failed in its objective of popularising Sanskrit and Vedic studies.

‘Lot to offer’

Mr. Bhardwaj said India had a lot to offer the world in Vedic astronomy, Vedic math and Vedic medicine. Institutions such as the university should step up to the challenge and recognise the interest that these subjects were generating worldwide.
