2-Day Jalapatotsava at Bharachukki Falls in Karnataka

Chamarajanagar, July 22, 2013: The district administration has decided to organise a two-day Jalapatotsava at Bharachukki falls in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district on August 10 and 11.

The decision was taken on Friday at a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner M.V. Savithri.

She said that the original glory of the falls had been restored thanks to copious rainfall as well as the release of water from the Kabini dam.

Minister for Cooperation and district in-charge H.S. Mahadeva Prasad had instructed the district officials to organise the Jalapatotsava to give a boost to tourism in the district.

Ms. Savithri said that a music and dance programme would be held against the backdrop of the falls.

She said that steps would be taken to ensure the safety of tourists and instructed the heads of the departments of Kannada and Culture, Transport, Police, and Tourism to make arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Jalapatotsava.

This is the second time that the Jalapatotsava will be held at the Bharachukki falls. It was earlier held in August 2007.

R. Dhruvanarayan, Chamarajanagar MP, will be requested to ask Union Minister of State for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi to participate in the event.

Several committees will be formed for the smooth conduct of the festival. There are also plans to illuminate the Bharachukki falls.
