BJP MLC Advocates for Yoga to be Added in Curriculum in Urdu Medium Schools

BANGALORE, July 19, 2013: BJP MLC and former minister Mumtaz Ali Khan has asked the government to draw Muslims towards yoga. According to him, yoga has been made compulsory in all the government schools. But when inquired, some of the Urdu medium schoolsare not following that rule.

"There is s misconception about yoga as many feel that it is for Hindus because of Suryanamaskara (postures of yoga). It is wrong to say surya (sun) is for Hindus, chandra(moon) for Muslims and nakshatra (stars) are for Christians," he said. 

JD(S) member Basavaraj Horatti also supported his argument and said yoga should be made compulsory to all religions. Primary and secondary education minister Kimmane Ratnakar said a committee has been constituted to remove objectionable parts in the text books.
