Free Bus Service to Historical Gurudwaras in Delhi to Facilitate Pilgrims
New Delhi, July 19, 2013: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh G.K. on Thursday said it will be starting a free bus service to the two main historical gurdwaras in Delhi – Bangla Sahib and Sis Ganj Sahib — for pilgrims on Sundays.
The buses would pick up pilgrims from Singh Sabha Gurdwaras near their homes, take them to Bangla Sahib and Sis Ganj Sahib for paying obeisance and drop them back to their local gurdwaras the same day. “The DSGMC has started this bus service because there are pilgrims who, due to some reason, have been unable to pay obeisance at both the gurdwaras,’’ he added.
Mr. Singh said the buses would be provided for by the elected members of DSGMC from all 46 constituencies.
To begin with, the DSGMC has hired two dozen buses to be placed at the disposal of the members and the number of buses would subsequently be increased. “The DSGMC is hoping to ferry around 1,000 pilgrims initially,” Mr Singh said, adding that they were also supporting pilgrims’ visits to gurdwaras outside Delhi.
