Music Fest to Honour the Memory of Gangubai Hangal

 

Hubli, July 19, 2013: A day-long national music festival will mark the fourth death anniversary of legendary Hindustani vocalist of Kirana gharana Gangubai Hangal here on Sunday.

The event organised by Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation and Hubli Art Circle will be held at Sawai Gandharva Hall at Deshpande Nagar.

Founder president of Dr. Gangubai Hangal Foundation Manoj Hangal told presspersons here on Thursday that 35 artistes would participate in the programme.

The musical tribute would begin with students of Hangal School of Indian Music presenting group songs. They are being trained by Pt. Arund Desai and Pallavi Khanpet.

Sripad Hegde Somanamane and Bakula Hegde Somanamane would present a vocal jugalbandi; Vikas Naregal and Nagbhushan S.G. would present tabla solo concerts; S.D. Bhajantri would present a shehnai concert; Krishna Joshi would present a flute concert and Prakash Hegde and Bharat Hegde would present harmonium solo performances.

The other artistes in the festival are vocalists Supriya Hegde, Geeta Alur, Vallabh Mulgund, Vasudev Karekar, Vinayak Hegde, Harish Hegde, Supriya Bhat, Parashuram Bhajantri, Tejaswaini Malagi, Pavan M. Hegde, Vinayak Hegde, Y. Kashinath, Arun Negalur, Gayatri Deshpande, Jayaram Kulkarni, Shrikanth Bakale and Hanumanthappa Alagavadi.
