Hindu Festivities in Alabama, Rath Yatra & Mahalakshmi Homam Conducted
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Alabama, July 15, 2013: The Hindu Cultural Center of North Alabama celebrated Sunday July 14th with Sri Mahalakshmi Homam - a fire ritual of sacrifice to the goddess of wealth and Ratha Yatra or Chariot Festival involving transporting deities on a chariot.
Usually the Jagannath triad gods are worshipped in the temple but once a year they are brought out travel to another temple in a brightly decorated chariot. During this journey the public can view the deities. After seven days, the deities will again ride in the chariot back to the main temple.
