TTD Launches a Cleanup Drive to Weed out Squatters

Tirumala, July 15, 2013: In an attempt to keep the unauthorised individuals away from the sacred shrine of Lord Venkateswara, the TTD’s Vigilance and Security personnel, in a joint operation carried out with the local police on Saturday night, identified over eighty persons who have been unlawfully dwelling atop the temple town.

The operation, which was carried out at the massive TTDs shopping complex, lasted till the small hours of Sunday.

All the apprehended persons had made the complex their dwelling place where they spent their nights.

The police were also shocked to find over half-a-dozen persons involved in some petty crimes at Tirumala to be in the detained group.

After a thorough scrutiny, they were shifted to Tirupati with a stern warning never to be seen again at Tirumala.

In this connection, the authorities also made it clear that any individual residing atop the hill town, even associated with private establishments like shops and function halls, must invariably have some valid explanation in support of their stay.
