Singer Jayashree Captivates Audience

Dharwad, July 15, 2013: Singer B. Jayashree and troupe enthralled the audience with a performance at Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha here on Saturday.

Known for her rustic voice, Jayashree started with Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar’s ‘Sri Ganaraya Parvathi Tanaya Sharanu Sharanu Ninage’. Later she presented ‘Sharanu Helevri Swami Navu Nimag, Saddu Gaddala Madbyadri Atadolag’, noted theatre personality B. V. Karanth’s composition of ‘Nirina Mele Chittara Kettalikkagodilla’, and other famous works.

The performance brought back memories of a bygone era of professional theatre to the audience. The songs were rendered in theatrical style, which has become rare these days.

Ms. Jayashree, who performed here after a gap, was here to take part in the release of the audio CD ‘Maretenendara Mareyali Hyang’. Literary personality Siddalinga Pattanshetty released the CD. Poet Hema Pattanshetti, Ranga Parisara president Vittal Koppad and others were present. Ms. Jayashree was felicitated on the occasion.

The singer said theatre was an age-old form of entertaining and educating people, and would flourish against all odds.
