Parsi Agiari

July 15, 2013: Bought for Rs. 8,000 in 1924, a piece of land in the city centre became home to the Parsi Agiari (fire temple). The fire temple was completed in 1925 and was consecrated in February 1926 with nearly 300 Parsis in attendance from Bombay and south India.

TOWER OF SILENCE

When several Parsi immigrants were hesitant to remain in Bangalore owing to the lack of a facility to dispose of the dead the Zoroastrian way, the anjuman decided to collect funds to erect a Doongarwadi on around 14 acres of land purchased from seven farmers on Bellary Road.

LADY JEHANGIR KOTHARI MEMORIAL HALL

We have all, at some point, bought a book or two or a tablecloth from an exhibition at the Lady Jehangir Kothari Memorial Hall. This hall was built in 1931 for the Parsi community in Bangalore to come together and celebrate their festivals. It was built by Sir Jehangir Hormasji Kothari, a prominent Parsi merchant from Karachi, in memory of his wife who had passed away on vacation in Bangalore in 1923.
