Pilgrims’ Wait for the Sibling Deities to Re-Emerge Ends

BHUBANESWAR, July 8, 2013: After a 15-day sabbatical, the sibling deities would provide Nabajoubandarshan to devotees on Monday. The deities were taken ill after the ceremonial bath during DebasnanPurnima on June 23 and out of bounds to pilgrims.

"The deities will appear in a rejuvenated look in sanctum sanctorum on Monday. All arrangements have been made for smooth darshan of the deities," temple's spokesperson Laxmidhar Pujapanda said.

Makeup men (banakalagi servitors) of the temple were busy giving finishing touches to the idols. "Make up is necessary as the sibling deities would appear before the devotees in a rejuvenated look after undergoing treatment at the temple's sick-room," said Sanjay Kumar Duttamohapatra, a banaklagi servitor.

Herbal products like hartala, hengula, karpura, kasturi and kaintha gum were used to paint the faces of the deities.
