New Session at BHU Commences with Events, Inaugurations
VARANASI, July 6, 2013: The first day of the new academic session of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was marked with several events organised by BHU on Friday.
Vice chancellor, BHU, Dr Lalji Singh, performed the ritual of Rudrabhishek at Vishwanath temple which was followed by a lecture on '60 years of DNA: Before and After' delivered by member of the executive council and noted scientist Dr PM Bhargava at KN Udupa auditorium.
Dr Bhargava also released two books on the occasion. The book 'Safar Khalihar se Vigyan tak' penned down by Dr Rajesh Singh of Press Publication and Publicity (PPP) Cell and Dr Sanjay Singh of faculty of Arts is the biographical notes based on the life of vice chancellor of the university. According to Dr Rajesh Singh, the inspirational incidences of the V-C's life have been penned in the book. Another book 'Katghare mein Meri Vyathaye' authored by the vice chancellor, was also released on the occasion. At the same time, a book exhibition on 60 years of DNA discovery was also inaugurated at Central Library, BHU. Some 800 books on various subjects like DNA finger printing, genome, stem cell research, forensic science, wildlife conservation and others were displayed on the occasion.
Later in the evening, several projects pipe-lined at Sir Sundar Lal (SSL) Hospital were inaugurated on the occasion.
Meanwhile, extending helping hand to the victims of the natural calamity in Uttarakhand, a donation of Rs 45 lakhs by the university was also announced on the occasion.
