Sastra University Comes to the Aid of Flood Victims, Donates Rs. 50 Lakhs Worth Relief Material
Thanjavur, July 5, 2013: The SASTRA University here has provided Rs. 50 lakh worth of relief material to the victims of Kedarnath floods.
First load of relief material containing 3,000 bags with 5 kg of atta, two kg of rice, one kg of sugar, one kg of baby food, one kg of milk powder, 250 gm of tea powder, one kg of dhal, besides biscuit packets and other essentials in two trucks were handed over to Swami Dayananda, Arsha Vidhya Pitham, Rishikesh, who will arrange for proper distribution of the material among the victims in Kedarnath. The trucks left SASTRA University on Wednesday and were flagged off by Swami Dayananda Saraswathy and R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of the university. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, SASTRA University, will join the distribution of relief material to the victims in Kedarnath from July 10 to 12. Another seven bags containing clothes, biscuits, and rice, handed over by the schoolchildren of Kumbakonam sent to SASTRA, have been loaded in the same truck. T.V. Sundaram Iyengar and Sons Ltd., Madurai, offered free transportation of material from Thanjavur to Rishikesh. EID Parry Ltd. has given a discount of 25 per cent on the total cost of sugar supplied by them, said a university release.
