Kukke Subramanya, Adyarkatte Cut off Due to Heavy Rains
Mangalore, July 5, 2013: As many as 185 houses were marooned and 91 houses damaged following heavy rainfall in the district on Thursday. District administration said water in Netravati has been flowing above danger level of 8.5 meters in Bantwal. In Puttur, the water has been flowing at 24.7 metres as against the danger level of 26.5m. The highest rainfall was recorded in Kadaba at 269 mm, followed by 219 mm in Puttur, 204.6 mm in Beltangady, 118.6mm in Sullia, 104.2mm in Moodbidri, 96.2mm in Bantwal and 51.3mm in Mangalore.
The road leading to pilgrimage place Kukke Subramanya was cut off after the low-lying Hosmata Bridge submerged.
Traffic movement was also affected on the Bantwal-Belthangady Road, on the Shiradi Ghat and in Laila near Venoor.
More than 50 houses along the Netravati in Adyarkatte near Adyar were surrounded by water cutting it off from the city. Tahzeel Adyarkatte said water level started to rise around 10 a.m. and the concrete road connecting the area with the national highway remained inundated.
Residents near Sahayadri Engineering College also faced threat of being marooned. Workers engaged in sand-mining on the river bed were left stranded in their make-shift huts. Several houses near Padu Gram Panchayat office near Farangipet and Arkula were also marooned.
