Kanchipuram, July 4, 2013: Kanchipuram, is home for so many temples – huge and magnificent. There are several divyadesams in and around kanchipuram. Several shrines in the nearby villages await renovation and restoration of nitya puja.

One such Vishnu temple is Sri Kariyamanicka Perumal temple at Purisai village in Kanchipuram district closer to Thirumalpur and Kooram village situated on the Kanchipuram-Arakkonam route. This temple is surrounded by Madhura Mangalam, Acharyan Embar swamy’s birth place, Thakkolam, Perambakkam and Narasingapuram.

The temple, built during the Pallava regime, dates back to the 16th century. The presiding deity is Sri Kariyamanicka Perumal and one would find niches for Vaishnava acharyan Ramanujar, Nammazhwar and Manavala Mamunigal, three of the most prominent among the 12 azhwars, inside the temple. Over the years the temple, due to lack of maintenance, has been lying in a state of disrepair. The 400-year-old temple needed extensive renovation and restoration.

The renovation work and the Balalayam commenced in the year 2011 by Pushpavalli Trust, Chennai, founded by P.S. Rangachari, a native of this village with the blessings of Tirumala Tirupati Sri Periyakoil Kelviyappan Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeer Swamy.

With financial aid received from philanthropists and the local villagers, renovation of the temple has been going on as per Pancharatra Agama tradition. The maha kumbabishekam is scheduled to take place on July 14. Periya Jeer Swami and Chinna Jeer Swami of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam have consented to grace the occasion.

The main structures being built are the sanctum sanctorum, separate sannidhis for Garuda, Anjaneyar, Nammazhwar, Ramanujar and Manavala Mamunigal. The temple pushkarani is dug inside the temple compound with rain water harvesting facility to channel the water into the pushkarani. The temple nandavanam has more trees to reduce the global warming.

How to reach

Purisai is 5 Kms from Thirumalpur Railway Station and 20 Kms from Kanchipuram and Arakonam.

From Thakolam and Perambakkam it is around 8 Kms

Buses are available every one hour from Kanchipuram and Share Autos available from Thirumalpur Junction.

Other private transport facilities are also available to reach the destination.
