Anil Ambani Comes Forward to Pay for Kedarnath Temple Restoration
Dehradun, June 28, 2013: After Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, it was industrialist Anil Ambani who offered to bear the expenses for the restoration work at the 1,200-year-old Kedarnath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Even as Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna are engaged in a game of oneupmanship over the temple restoration issue, Ambani on Wednesday assured temple committee chief executive officer V D Singh of all possible help.
Money no constraint
Ambani said money would not be a constraint for cleaning the area and restoring the temple.
A few days ago, Modi had offered to take the responsibility of restoring the temple, which was declined by Bahuguna.
The temple town was the worst-hit in the catastrophe. In fact, the Kedarnath area was the epicentre of the devastation.
The maximum casualties were reported there. The temple remains intact. The Nandi statue outside the temple and the Shiv ling also withstood the impact.
Everything else–buildings, shops, banks and hotels–around the temple are in a state of ruin.
