Rains Subside Giving Bringing Relief and Cheer to Kukke Bound Pilgrims

MANGALORE, June 28, 2013: Intensity of South-West monsoon tapering off wee-bit brought relief to devotees headed for the pilgrimage centre of Kukke Sri Subrahmanya. Water that was overflowing the Kumaradhara Bridge that leads to temple town from Uppinangady for the past two-days has receded facilitating smooth flow of traffic toSubrahmanya, police said. Devotees forming human chains had crossed the bridge two-days back as water overflowed the bridge.

Harihara Pallatadka gram panchayath in Sullia taluk in the district recorded high intensity rain of 100.5mm at 8am on Thursday. Likewise, Vittal hobli recorded high intensity rain of 50mm from 5.15am to 5.30am; Kodambadi gram panchayath high intensity rain of 62mm from 5.30am to 5.45am; and Markanja gram panchayath in Sullia taluk high intensity rain of 95mm at 8am. Police said the rains did not cause any major natural calamity in the region.

According to data released by the office of deputy commissioner here on Thursday, DK received average of 51.6mm of rainfall in the last 24-hours up to 8.30am on Thursday as against 32.3mm on the same day last year. Bantwal taluk (last year's figures in bracket) recorded 41.2mm rainfall in the above period (28.2mm), Belthangady 89.8mm (35.4mm), Mangalore 42.8mm (31.6mm), Puttur 40.33mm (35mm), and Sullia 44mm (31.4mm).

Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Bangalore stated that Harihara Pallatadka in Sullia taluk recorded maximum of 101.5mm rainfall in the 24-hours ending 8.30am on Thursday. Rainfall in other places (in mm) is as follows; Markanja 95; Naravi 83; Panaje 63; Mulki 59.5; Aletti 64; Venoor 57.5; Aladangadi 56.5; Yenmuru 56; Padangadi 54; Kodambadi 49; Gurupur 48.5; Sullia 47.5; Kanyana, and Uppinangady 43 each.

Likewise, Kadaba recorded 42mm, Panemangalore, and Songabeltu 41.5 each; Moodbidri 39; Indabettu 38; Tannirapantha 37; Savanoor 35.5; Mangalore B 35; Badagayedapadavu 34.5; Koyyuru 33; Bantwal 32; Mangalore A 31; Kallamundkuru 27.4; Masthikatte 26.9; Aithoor 39.5; and Koila 26mm. The Nethravathi was flowing at 5.4 metres well below the danger level of 8.5metres at Bantwal; and 22 metres against 29.5 metres at Uppinangady.
