Ambubachi Mela Ends, Lakhs of Pilgrims Swarm the Kamakhya Temple to Offer Worship and Prayers
Guwahati, June 26, 2013: On Wednesday lakhs of devotees thronged the Kamakhya temple and paid obeisance to the goddess as the temple authorities opened the entrance gate after three days in the morning with bringing down end to this year’s Ambubachi Mela. The doors were opened on Wednesday at 6 am and the rush of devotees continued throughout the day. Worth mentioning, the doors of Kamakhya Temple were closed at 12:15pm on Saturday with the prabritti ritual and reopened to visitors on Wednesday after nibritti on Tuesday midnight. The police and administration have left no stone unturned to provide security to the pilgrims, who have been camping around the Kamakhya temple. Since the number of pilgrims increased this year the police and administration had a tough time controlling the rush. Reportedly many devotees had to return home without offering their prayers to the goddess for a ticket-centric controversy. But the temple management committee finally brought the situation under control. The Kamakhya Debottar Board alleged following scarcity of funds, the money meant for tickets was spent for the temple’s development. Shortage of water of electricity also gave the devotees a harrowing time.
