Pilgrims Stranded at Badrinath Get 2 Meals a Day Now

Gulbarga, June 26, 2013: The situation in the flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand, particularly in Badrinath where a large number of pilgrims from Karnataka were stranded after the June 15 downpour, has improved.

Shashikantrao Akshanti, who is stranded there, informed his son-in-law Rajendra, in Gulbarga, that there were around 200 pilgrims from Karnataka in Badrinath. He said that they were getting two meals a day and that medicines were being provided by defence personnel.

The elderly suffering from hypertension and diabetes were the worst affected by the shortage of medicines.

He added that electricity supply had been restored and their living conditions were much better now.

However, evacuation was likely to be delayed by another three days owing to the bad weather, Mr. Akshanti said.
