Kalpetta, June 25, 2013: The Wayanad Sangeetha Sabha organised a Carnatic music concert by Mathangi Sathyamoorthy at the DIET Auditorium at Sulthan Bathery recently.

She was accompanied by Manjoor Ranjith (violin), Cherthala G. Krishnakumar (mridangam), and Manjoor Unnikrishnan (ghatom).

Ms. Sathyamoorthy began the concert withSarasijanaabha , a Swati Tirunal composition in raga Kaamboji, and followed it with Vara vallabha ramana , a kriti by G.N. Balasubramaniam in Hamsadhwani.

Thyagaraja’s Pakkala nilabadi in Kharaharapriya, Swaaminaatha paripaalaya composed by Muthuswami Dikshitar in ragam Naata, and Swati Tirunal’s Maamava sadhaa janani in Kaanada raga were the other kritis presented.

Ms. Sathyamoorthy presented three fast-paced pieces — Venketaachalanilyam in Sindhubhairavi,Ododi vande kanna in Dharmaavathi, and Parukkulai nalla naadu in ragam Jonpuri, a patriotic composition by Bharatheeyar — in the second half of the concert.

The three-hour concert concluded with a mangalam.
