CM seeks rescue of 49 stranded pilgrims in Uttarakhand
Puducherry, June 22, 2013: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday called up his Uttarakhand counterpart Vijay Bahuguna seeking his help in rescuing 49 stranded tourists and a missing professor of Bharathiyar Engineering College from Puducherry.
He told the Uttarakhand Chief Minister that a group of 49 tourists, who went to Gangothri on May 28, had been stranded between Gangothri and Uttarkhasi due to unprecedented flood.
Though reported safe, they were running short of money, ration and other essentials. Hence, necessary steps should be taken to send the pilgrims, who were currently staying in a small hotel, back to Puducherry as early as possible.
Mr. Rangasamy also said that K. Kumaresan, professor of Bharathiyar Engineering College, Karaikal, who went to Uttarakhand, had lost contact ever since the flood caused huge havoc there. Steps should be taken to find out his whereabouts, the Chief Minister requested.
He also sent an official letter to Mr. Bahuguna demanding rescue of stranded pilgrims.
