150 Surat Pilgrims Still Missing in Calamity-Struck Uttarakhand
SURAT: The District Collectorate of Surat and Surat’s Disaster Management Cell has so far collated information about 674 pilgrims from Surat who have got stuck in the calamity-hit Uttarakhand. Of them 541 are from Surat city, 76 fromBardoli, 13 from Choryasi, 15 from Kamrej, 17 from Palsana, 5 each from Olpad and Mangroland 2 from Mahuataluka of the district.
"We were able to get in touch with some of these people in Uttarakhand, especially those who had gone in groups or organized tours. However, we are still to get in touch with about 150 people. The state disaster control in Uttarakhand has been provided with their details," district collector Jayprakash Shivhare said.
Surat Regional Transport Office (RTO) had issued permits to Jay Bhavani Travels, Gurukripa Travels, Chamunda Travels and Nita Travels for their respective tours to Uttarakhand. However, Nita Travels, which took 50 passengers to that state on tour, only returned on Thursday.
"We have no information about smaller groups or families that may have gone to Uttarakhand on their own," said an official from the district collectorate.
