Two Pilgrims from Guntur Dead, 10 More Missing
At least two pilgrims — T. Malleswari (64) and Krishna Kumari (40) — from the district died on their way to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand State and 10 more have been reportedly missing in the north Indian State since the weather there turned inclement.
Malleswari and Krishna Kumari belonged to Duggirala town and Munnangi village in Kollipara mandal respectively.
Malleswari went on the ‘Chardham’ tour on June 2 along with friends and relatives. They visited the Kedarnath temple on June 15 and were stuck while returning. The shed under which they were taking shelter collapsed due to incessant rain.
While the group was trying to move to a safe place, she fell into the floodwater. Malleswari’s son Siva got information that she was dead.
Krishna Kumari went on the tour along with husband Satyanarayana, who survived the disaster. Five more pilgrims who went along with them from Kollipara are missing.
A couple from Amaravathi S. Pulla Rao and Bharati is missing along with five others belonging to the same town as theirs.
Meanwhile, the district officials are trying to obtain information about those who went on the pilgrimage in the Himalayan territory in the last few weeks and have since been missing.
