No Construction on Land Allotted to Math
Mata Amritanandamayi Math on Monday gave an undertaking in the Karnataka High Court stating that it would not construct any structure on the 25 acres of land allotted to it by the government at Kanimanike village near Kengeri.
The undertaking was given by the counsel of the math during the hearing of a public interest litigation petition filed by K.J. Govindaraj, a resident of Kanimanike, challenging the legality of the allotment of the land. It was also submitted on behalf of the math that only the compound wall has been put up around the allotted land and no other structure will be constructed.
Following this, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice B.V. Nagarathna adjourned the further hearing on the petition.
The government in 2008 had allotted 25 acres of the 154.24 acres of Gomala land (land earmarked for grazing) to the math and executed the sale deed in May 2012.
The petition alleged that the Gomala land was allotted in violation of the provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act.
