Omar Forced To Leave Khir Bhawani Shrine by Furious Devotees

SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah was on Monday forced to leave revered Khir Bhawani shrine at Tulamulla near Srinagar after dozens of angry Kashmiri Pandit devotees raised slogans against him.

Reports said the chief minister had to leave minutes after he arrived at the shrine to interact with the devotees, who have gathered there in numbers for an annual mela at Ragnia Mata temple.

The devotees were angry over the lack of facilities at Kashmir migrant camps in Jammu. "We are facing difficulties in migrant camps in Mutti and other migrant camps in Jammu. We do not have drinking water and face acute shortage of electricity," said devotee Vinod Koul.

Koul said the chief minister had repeatedly assured them of mitigating their difficulties. "He has always pleaded for our return to the Valley but without providing housing facilities.''

Later, Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad interacted with the devotees and assured them that their demands would be addressed.
