VARANASI: One of the biggest and busiest markets of the city, Godowlia, is all set to receive a facelift. The garbage collection centre (GCC) in the area will make way for a parking stand.

Inspections of the locality were carried out by the District Magistrate and the SSP on Monday. The DM ordered to divert the garbage to Beniabag and Revari Talab garbage collection centres and start the parking project soon.

The Godowlia GCC, not far from the main entrance of the world famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, generally presents an unpleasant site especially in the monsoons, in the middle of a place that is popular among tourists and pilgrims. After the decision to ban three and four-wheelers on the road from Godowlia crossing to Dashashwamedh ghat in May, it had become very inconvenient for the commuters as they had to park the vehicle at a distant place in the absence of any parking slot in the area.
