The Tirumala Rush
The declaration of EAMCET results and the last leg of summer vacations brought in an unprecedented turnout of devotees at the town of Lord Venkateswara. Tirumala which had been experiencing a heavy influx of pilgrims for the past four days, on Saturday virtually witnessed a sea of humanity with darshan queue lines stretching to a couple of kilometres outside the massive queue complexes. While it took about 36 hours for the common devotees in the dharma darshan queue lines, it took 24 for those travelling on foot and almost equivalent hours for those in the Rs. 300 special entry queue lines.
The officials had such a testing time trying to manage such a huge turnout of devotees that the ‘Maha laghu’ darshan system, towards which the devotees had developed lot of abhorrence, was slapped inside the temple by the administration on all the five days.
