కొపేశ్వర దేవాలయం:ఖిద్రపూర్,

ప్రాచీన కోపేశ్వర్ ఆలయం ఇది ఖిద్రాపూర్ లో,కొల్హాపూర్ జిల్లాలో,మహారాష్ట్ర లో ఉంది.ఇది శివుడి ఆలయం.ఇది కృష్ణా నది ఒడ్డున ఉంది.అక్కడ కొన్ని కారణాలు మనం నమ్మాల్సి ఉంటుంది అలాంటి వాటి వలన ఈ ఆలయం నిర్మాణం 7AD వ శతాబ్దం లో మొదలైంది.అక్కడ రాజుల యుద్ధాల వలన చాలా వరకు నిర్మాణం ఆగిపోయింది.పునర్నిర్మాణం మళ్లీ 12 వ్ శతాబ్దం.లో పూర్తి చేశారు. అది శైలహర మరియు యాదవరాజుల వలన జరిగింది.
ఆలయం నాలుగు భాగాలు ఉంటుంది,అన్ని భాగాలు కూడా వాటిని అవి ఒకే మండపం ద్వారా కలిసే ఉంటాయి.ఇందులోని స్వర్గ మండపం చుట్టూ 48 శిల్పాలతో స్తంభాల రూపం లో చెక్కబడి సర్కిల్లో పేర్చబడి ఉంటుంది.ఆ 48 స్తంభాల లో ఒక్కో స్థంభం ఒక్కో రకంగా ఉంటుంది.కొన్ని గుండ్రంగా,మరికొన్ని చతురస్త్రం గా,శడ్భుజి ఆకారం లో,మరికొన్ని అష్టభుజి లో ఉన్నాయి.
మరొక అద్భుతం ఏంటంటే,స్వర్గ మండపం పైభాగం వృత్తాకారం గా మధ్యలో ఉంటుంది(అది13 ఫీట్ ల వ్యాసార్ధం తో)ఆకాశానికి తెరిచి ఉంటుంది.గర్భగుడి శంఖు ఆకారం లో ఉంటుంది.బయట అద్భుత దేవతల శిల్పాల తో ఉంటుంది,ఏనుగుల విగ్రహాలు ఆలయ బరువు మోస్తున్నట్టుగా బేస్ లో ఉంటుంది.
ఇది ఒక అద్భుత ఆలయం,దర్శకులకు మొదటగా విష్ణుమూర్తి దోపేశ్వర్ లో లింగరూపంలో దర్శనం ఇస్తాడు,సాధారణంగా కనిపించే శివలింగం రూపానికి బదులుగా.శివలింగం ఉత్తరానికి మొహం చేసి ఉండగా ఈ రెండు లింగాలు కూడా అదే గర్భగుడిలో ఉంటాయి.మరో ముఖ్యమైన విషయం ఏంటంటే అక్కడ ఆలయం మొదట్లో అంNఈ ఆలయాలలో ఉన్నట్టు నందీశ్వరుడు ఇక్కడ ఉండరు.

KOPESHWAR TEMPLE, KHIDRAPUR, KOLHAPUR DISTRICT, MAHARASHTRA
The ancient Kopeshwar temple at Khidrapur in Kolhapur District is dedicated to Lord Shiva and sits on the bank of River Krishna. There are reasons to believe that even though the construction of Kopeshwar temple started sometime in 7th century AD, the work remained incomplete largely due to constant skirmishes between warring rulers of the region. The renovation was completed only in the 12th Century by the Shilahara and the Yadava Kings.
This temple is in four parts, all interconnected through vestibules. The first structure you enter through is the Swarga Mandap (Heavenly Hall). The architecture of Swarga mandap is unique. This mandap is round in shape and is constructed with the support of 48 well carved rounded stone pillars which are placed in three circles. Each of the 48 pillars has been carved in different shapes -round, square, hexagon and octagon. Another unique feature of Swarga Mandap is that a part of the circular ceiling in the middle (with a radius of 13 feet) is open to the sky. The sanctum is conical. The exterior has stunning carvings of deities. Elephant statues sustain the weight of the temple at the base
This is a unique temple inasmuch as visitors first get a glimpse of Lord Vishnu as Dhopeshwar in ling form instead of the Shivaling which is usually the case in temples consecrated to Lord Shiva. The Shivaling is facing north and both lings are found in the same sanctum sanctorum. Another notable feature of this temple is that there is no Nandi at the entrance- which is the norm for all Shiva temples.
