First-of-its-kind Indian Cultural Road Show in Slough
April 07, 2014: An explosion of colour and excitement hit Slough High Street on Saturday as the first Indian Cultural Road Show came to town.
The event was another feather in the cap of the voluntary organisation Slough Mitra Mandal, which has made its mark since its creation in 2010 with the three Sarvajanik Ganesh Festivals runs at the Hindu temple.
Saturday's event brought Indian traditional dance to the town, performed inside the Observatory.
It followed a walk from outside Godri Restaurant in Park Street to the High Street.
The rhythmic sound of drumming accompanied the traditional attire of the walkers as passers-by stopped to watch the spectacle before it moved into the Observatory.
Organiser Ajay Murudkar from Mitra Mandal said: "It was the first time this kind of event had been held. It is now something we would like to carry forward.
"We had people travel from London to take part and we made sure we kept it open for everyone."
Everyone had been encouraged to dress in traditional Indian costumes with parents encouraged to turn their children into mini-versions of well-known Indian patriotic characters.
